We are proud to have been chosen as the branding consultancy for MyOhMy Weddings – also based in London – the UK’s only wedding planning service exclusively for the LGBT community.
Ex-police officer Lorna Reeves (one of the first students on the Shifts to Success programme) was keen to launch her new company during London Pride 2018, so she invested in our new Quickstart Branding service, specifically designed for start-up businesses.
It’s an intense ‘done-with-you’ day where you will discover your brand values and aspirations, name your company (if needed), develop your strapline, establish brand language and tone, colours, typefaces, and end up with the essential elements of your brand to get you started online and in real life – all in one day!
Lorna wanted an aspirational, stylish brand for her affluent LGBT target clients. She was keen to avoid any of the sector’s clichés’- no pink or rainbow flags! We also felt her brand should reflect her own classic and elegant style.
Lorna loved the ‘MyOhMy’ name we came up with as it was “a little bit camp” – you could almost imagine Judy Garland saying it! It was also the reaction that Lorna would like for her clients when they walk into the room that she had created for them.
The strapline “Your time to stand out and be proud” is not just about being out and proud, but also that your wedding day is your time, your moment to be noticed, to be proud of who you are.
We chose Orpheus Pro, an elegant serifed typeface, and soft, sophisticated colours, inspired by Lorna’s love of the limited-edition rose-gold Method packaging! The gradient effect gives a shimmer to the logo, and Lorna felt made it look ‘breathy’, like a sigh.
During our competitor analysis research we saw that most wedding companies used images of flowers, rings and hearts. So far, so blah. An easy way to stand out and look different from the crowd would, therefore, be to choose different imagery.
We avoided all the marriage and wedding clichés and instead explored ‘love symbolism’…and there we found the doves…
The dove symbolises not only love, but peace and freedom – the freedom to marry who you want, where you want and how you want to. It was the perfect, elegant finishing touch.
We also designed Lorna’s business cards, (with a rose gold metallic ink on the reverse for a truly luxe feel), a social media profile icon (the dove) and her brand guidelines, below. As wedding photography is a big part of the brand’s imagery we also provided guidelines on these.
Lorna actually cried when she saw her logo for the first time.
