We are proud to be the branding consultancy for MyOhMy Weddings – the UK’s only luxury wedding planning service for the LGBT community.
“Wow...this is my business – it has a new name and incredible new look.
The Branding Day was amazing! I got real clarity on my brand vision, so that when we started the design process in the afternoon, it came together remarkably quickly!
I was scared before to set up this business as it was an unknown. Now seeing my company name and logo in its beautiful glory, I’m not scared anymore. I know in my soul that it’s not just an idea or a dream – this is going to happen!
Thanks to the amazing Sapna Pieroux of InnerVisions ID for her skills, making my pipe dreams become reality…”
Lorna Reeves, founder of MyOhMy Weddings
Ex-police officer Lorna Reeves (one of the first Shifts to Success cohort) was keen to launch her new company during London Pride 2018. She invested in our Quickstart Branding service, specifically designed for start-ups.
It’s an intense ‘done-with-you’ service where we nail your brand in a day. We discover your brand values and aspirations, develop your strapline, and establish brand language and tone, colours, typefaces. You’ll end up with your logo, business card, social media icon and brand guidelines to get you started, in real life and online.
(Yes, we do this all in one day!)
The brief
Lorna wanted an aspirational, stylish brand for her affluent target market. No clichés’: “No pink or rainbow flags, please!”
We also felt her brand should reflect her own classic, elegant style.
the name ‘MYOHMY’
Lorna loved the ‘MyOhMy’ name we came up with as it was, in her words, “a little bit camp”, a little bit Judy Garland. It is also the reaction that Lorna wants for her clients when they walk into a room that she has created for them.
The strapline, “Your time to stand out and be proud” is not just about being out and proud, but about your wedding being your moment to shine.
Logo development
We chose an elegant typeface and soft, sophisticated colours (inspired by Lorna’s love of the iconic rose-gold Method packaging!). The gradient effect adds a shimmer, and Lorna felt made it look ‘breathy’, like a sigh.
imagery
During our research, we saw that most wedding companies used images of flowers, rings and hearts. Along with the LGBT community, this is another industry rife with clichés. The challenge was to straddle both sectors and appeal to both communities without falling into the lazy clichés of either.
We quickly moved away from all the tedious wedding imagery and instead started to explore the symbolism for ‘love‘…which is where we found our dove.
Doves symbolise not only love, but peace and freedom. This can translate as the freedom to marry who you want, where you want and how you want to.
It was the perfect finishing touch.
We designed Lorna’s business cards, printed with a rose gold metallic ink on the reverse for a truly luxe feel.
We also used the dove for her social media icon and created her brand guidelines, below.
As wedding photography is a big part of the brand’s imagery we also provided guidelines on these.
Lorna actually cried with relief and happiness when she saw the finished MyOhMy logo for the first time. She walked out of the day with a huge smile on her face, her confidence soaring. It’s amazing to see that branding can have that effect on people. When you have dreamt about creating a company for so long, it can be so powerful to suddenly see it come alive.
